Adaptive Sports is strong in Seattle thanks to dedicated athletes and supporters! Over the past year, we built up foundational pieces to our programs and community outreach. Read highlights from our journey below and click through to see additional stories and content.


January

Goalball, Basketball, and sled hockey resumed weekly practices after winter break.

Kraken Sled hockey traveled to Colorado for the Rocky Mountain Mayhem tournament and went 1-2 on the weekend. On January 28, the team invited VA Puget Sound therapists for a clinic on the ice!

The Sonics D1 continue their preparation for their first tournament in Phoenix. The team went 2-2 against tough competition from teams along the western conference. Meanwhile, the Sonics D3 goes 3-1 at their tournament in Victoria.

February

February 3rd-4th, the King Cobras secure the top spot at the Cascade Classic in Portland.

D1 faced elite competition at the Brad Rich Invitational. Thank you to @wolfpacksd for hosting our D1 athletes.

The D3, Varsity, and Prep programs faced off against our PNW friends at the Northwest Presidents Cup.

February 24th-25th, The PNW Reign competed at the Phoenix Regional Tournament as the newly-formed Reign.

March

Training Road Trips:

March 16 – Kraken Sled Hockey athletes travel to BC for the get additional training at the Sportability Provincial Para Ice Hockey Event.

March 18 – Seattle Power Soccer visits Power Soccer PDX for a training camp.

On March 1st, the Varsity team traveled to their first regional tournament, the West Coast Conference Championships, in Phoenix, Arizona. This experience exposed our teenagers to new competition beyond the PNW.

April

SAS hosted our Annual Gala and raised over $50,000 to grow adaptive sports in Seattle. Thank you to all of our sponsors, community partners, and supporters!

Power Soccer resumed practices at Meadowbrook Community Center after a spring break.

After a first-round upset win, the D1 Sonics went on to earn the 8th spot in the country at the NWBT.
The PNW Reign debuted their state-of-the art jerseys from Adidas at the Women’s National Wheelchair Basketball Tournament.

May

May 24-26 – Kraken Sled Hockey end the Hendrickson Festival as Level B Champions! Check out our reel leading up to the tournament!

On May 18th, we restarted our 12-week summer wheelchair basketball program at the Seattle PlayGarden. This is an inclusive training series designed to incorporate people of all abilities. Extra basketball equipment was provided to allow for the public to join in free, weekly basketball sessions.

June

June 23 – We cohosted an adaptive sports clinic to support H&NP’s 5k for Today.

Montlake Futures arranged for UW Men’s Basketball players to join us during our summer training sessions. This was a terrific opportunity for our athletes to connect with leaders in our sport.

We launched a new Summer Wheelchair Basketball Camp in partnership with Garfield Community Center and Seattle Parks.

July

We are joined by new power soccer coaches! Shannon and Katie are both students at University of Washington’s Rehabilitation Medicine department. This dynamic duo has greatly improved the quality and consistency of our practices.

August

The King Cobras are the National Champions! We could not be more proud of their hard work and dedication that made this achievement possible.

We wrapped up the summer basketball league with 3-vs-3 tournament and barbecue.

August 28 – The Junior Sonics were invited to scrimmage during halftime of the Storm Game vs. the Atlanta Dream.

September

Seattle Adaptive Sports partnered with Power Soccer PDX to host a Try-it event on September 30th. As part of this collaboration, athletes were able to learn new drills from Coach Ryan Kenneally and test out customized competition chairs with metal guards. Ryan is helping our program get ready for the competitive level, and we are grateful to have his knowledge in the PNW!

September 7th – We hosted the first Seattle Adaptive Sports Day! This is a new lunch celebration for our sport programs that is hosted at the Seattle PlayGarden.

Seattle Adaptive Sports showcased power soccer and wheelchair basketball in support of H&NP’s Annual Meetup.

October

Kraken Sled Hockey came in 4th place at the International Sled Hockey Tournament in Park City, Utah.

The Kraken were joined on the ice by Seattle Police for a friendly exhibition! Tickets were sold in support of team travel. We were grateful to compete in front of our community!

The King Cobras went undefeated at the Sound City Throwdown in Tacoma.

Seattle Adaptive Sports was gifted over $45K to purchase eight program chairs by foundry10. The production team from foundry10 also featured our athletes.

October 19-20, SAS basketball teams competed in the Spokane Showdown tournament.

November

Kraken Sled Hockey finishes in 2nd place in tier 5 at the USA Sled Hockey Classic.

Four teams competed at the Bridge City Classic wheelchair basketball tournament in Beaverton, Oregon.

Five basketball chairs were donated from Edmonds College so that more adults can participate.
KC HELP donates a hoyer lift to enable our power soccer athletes to transfer safely

December

We launched Sports for All Bodies campaign, an end-of-the year fundraising campaign that celebrates unique abilities.
