Sled hockey is in our blood. Like true Seattleites, we cheer on our hometown heroes, the Kraken because they’re talented, fast, and excellent stewards of our community.
Our jerseys unite us in the same iconic deep sea and ice blue colors. After sleds hit the ice, we understand that we represent the PNW in each matchup. As teammates, our competitive nature pushes us to challenge each other’s physical and mental limits on our quest to be one of the best squads in the country. This latest test took place at the NHL Sled Hockey Championships in West Chapel, Florida from November 17-19.
A Back-And-Forth Weekend
We arrived in Florida in good spirits on Thursday, November 16th. As a team, we took some essential time to bond and relax before being challenged the next morning.
On the schedule, we were set to face off against the Washington Capitals, a fierce crew with USA national team experience. This proved to be our toughest game for the weekend, and we were outscored 0-5. While unsettling, this lone defeat proved to be a major motivator for the following match.
On Saturday, we finally found the back of the net against the Colorado Avalanche. Liborio, our MVP for the game, was absolutely unstoppable. He went on to score all five of our team’s goals in an impressive run!
For a chance to push ourselves into the championship game, we had a final challenge against Carolina Sled Hockey. Our teammates grinded through each period with hopes of landing a goal. The final result was a tie, and due to points, we narrowly missed out on advancing.
Ultimately, we aspire to compete at the highest levels, and admittedly, missing out because of technical points is a tough pill to swallow. We’ll use this feeling as fuel for our upcoming tournaments. Nothing will change our team pride and comradery. Let’s keep battling, Sled Kraken!
